Tis The Season . . .

For Steve and his family hunting season is better than Christmas. It's really not even a comparison for Steve. His dad and brothers talk about it and anticipate openning morning much like I do Christmas morning. It comes complete with traditions of egg gravy on toast and cutting of the orange when shots are missed. We've really had a fun time seeing everyone and spending some time in the wide outdoors. Fred and Jeannine are so nice to let us bombard their house for the week (or weeks) of the hunt.

This picture is of Steve's buck. He shot it openning morning, something he probably won't do again unless it's a "monster buck". It was a nice 3x4 though and the boys sure thought it was fun to actually see the deer before he shot. Bronsen told his dad, "They have horns, shoot!"

Sorry to all of those who are not used to all of the carnage that is associated with hunting season. I tried to crop out what I could. Hope I haven't offended anyone with all the blood, guts and carcasses.

It's A Girl!!

So unbelievable I know. I must admit that I might be a little extra excited since I found out we're having a girl. Steve and I are neither one sure that we are going to know what to do with a girl, but we'll find out soon enough.

I went up to the clinic on Tuesday to get some copies of my lab work that Dr. Black had ordered so that I can take it over to my midwife next week. He wasn't busy at all and I had a few questions for him. One of them being "Should I go to the mall while I'm up in Salt Lake this weekend and get a gender check ultrasound since we couldn't tell on the diagnostic one a few weeks ago, or do you want to order another ultrasound here?" Well Dr. Black just laughed at me and said, "Hey, I'm not busy let's just go in the back and see was we can see." He's so great to understand us crazy mothers-to-be. So despite that I had both boys with me and no husband I wasn't about to turn down an offer like that. And sure enough she was totally cooperative. I got a 95% assurance it's a girl. I guess I can finally start buying pink. Thanks Dr. Black. If any of you live within driving distance of Blanding or Monticello I highly recommend him. New doctors that are fresh and excited about their practice are so great to work with.

Sleeping Like A Baby

So I know I'm posting a ton all in one night, but I finally got a moment that I decided to heck with everything I'm supposed to be doing. I have a ton of things I've been wanting to post on the blog. So here is just a glimpse into how crazy life has been lately. Yesterday I canned venison and peaches all afternoon. Parker just found a cozy spot to sleep and pulled up a blanket. (In my defense the first part of this nap was in his bed, he just woke up a little before he was really ready to face the rest of the day.) If you'd like I can also post pictures of my bathrooms that need cleaned, the mountain of laundry that needs folded and any other pictures that will remind all of you amazing moms out there that your life is perfectly normal and only the ladies you visit teach have perfectly clean houses all the time.

The Mighty Hunter

I got another tiny 4 point this year. I think I'm going to start a collection of the worlds smallest 4 points. This was my first muzzleloader hunt though, which did make things a little more interesting. Steve was a great guide despite being frustrated by all of the big "monster bucks" that kept taunting us to just try to get close enough to shoot them. This one turned out pretty fun with another story to tell. We even got to wear headlamps and track it in the dark. Thanks Jordan for letting me use your gun.

Puppy Luv

A month or so ago we took our dog Haley into the vet to be fixed because all of the neighbor dogs were driving us crazy when she was in heat. Well, unfortunately it killed her. Bronsen was devastated, the rest of us were pretty sad too, so we had to get a new dog. On the way home from Oregon we stopped in Salt Lake and found Moki.

So far she's been a pretty good dog, a puppy, but a good dog. I do have to tell you about one thing that makes Steve laugh so hard. Steve and the puppy were downstairs watching TV and Parker came down completely naked. He loves to wrestle Moki, so he pounced on her. When Moki finally got away and Parker wasn't paying attention Moki jumped up and bit Parker right on the bum. How's that for payback Parker? We are enjoying having a puppy again despite the circumstances that made us want another one.

Oregon Family Vacation

We loaded up the kids two weeks ago for a family vacation to Klamath Falls, OR. It's in south central Oregon next to the California border. Here are some of the highlights and not so great things of the trip.

Highlights. . .
- The lava cave national monument was definitely a highlight. What little boys (and moms) don't love putting on helmets and using flashlights to hike up to 2000 ft. into a lava tunnel. It was really really cool.
- The boys spent so much time in the swimming pool at the Running Y Ranch where we stayed. Bronsen even swam across the pool without his floaty on the last day.
- We tried to go fishing, but after hours of no luck we let the boys strip down and just swim. Parker was so excited to chase the ducks. Luckily they were pretty tame.
- We got to see Crater lake. The 7th deepest lake in the world. On the way there we stopped for a free train ride at a miniature train mountain.
- Just spending relaxed quality time together.

Not so great things . . .
- My purse got lost or stolen somewhere between Wendover and Oregon. What a nightmare.
- We were going on a bike ride on an asphalt trail that went around the resorts golf course. Steve was pulling the bike trailer with the boys in it and discover that at the bottom of a steep hill was a sharp 90 degree corner. Anyway, the trailer rolled over twice. The straps broke and threw Bronsen out. They both got some road rash, Parker's hand was the worst. Luckily they were both wearing helmets, and their helmets took a beating as well.
- We didn't catch any fish.
- We drove ssssooooooo much that week. Poor little boys.
